Ferocious bubbles!

The French champagne Charles Heidsieck Brut Reserve is a compote of multiple vintages, with approximately four years of bottle age.It is light yellow in the glass, with ferocious bubbling when first poured. There is a bready/cream aroma from the glass. On the palate, the impression is one of round, dry, slightly funky pinkness, with light acids. Finish is even and modest in length. Three stars out of five.More reviews at spiritofwine.blogspot.com.

Charles Heidsieck Brut Reserve NV

Sampled 7/9/10. This wine has a little yeastiness to it. I generally don`t like Champagnes with a lot of yeast, but this one has just enough to make it interesting and slightly creamy without being overdone. The finish lasts with you because of the yeastiness but it slowly disappears as the acidity and citrus flavors break through.

Nothing special but decent
Score: 90 points

Sampled 6/19/09. This wine fell a little flat for me, but not for a lack of bubbles. Plenty of fizz, just not much complexity to this dry wine with lime, chalk, orange peel and a little yeast. I`ve been holding this wine for a couple years, but I think it could get a little better with time as it feels tightly wound.

Crisp and Focused

Sampled 8/18/07. This wine is a great alternative to other NVs such as P. Heidsieck, V. Cliquot, Taittinger, Moet. It pack more of a citrus, acid and carbonated punch than any of them and is well made. Tangerine, straw and lemons come through. I think this wine will actually improve by becoming more rounded with 3 to 5 years of cellar aging and will set my remaining ones down for that long to see how they do.

Very Nice NV
Score: 91 points
Drink by: Now to 2 years
Sampled 2/13/06. This wine is almost a pure crossbreed of Moet and Krug NVs. Grapefruit citrus with slight yeast and an apple finish with plenty of punch that makes seem as though it could age for some time if desired. It is a good value wine.
