Hahn (Smith & Hook) has some prime real estate in the SLH and most of their land was planted to bordeaux varietals. Thanks to 'the movie' these 30+ year old vines were replanted to pinot, making 2005 the last vintage for hahn cab franc. Fellow local winemaker Damien Georis made a great wine out of this last pick called 'Madeline', and it sold out locally in short order. This cab franc is intensely fruit driven, with a slight tobacco nose, made in the modern cali style. The wines made in the early 80s were a tough sell, tight tannin and low alcohol bordeaux blends from monterey didn't really have a market. Now they are very similar to old paulliacs like Latour. Hopefully the pinot they harvest from this plot near soledad can match that potential.
