I wanted to like this on hype alone, but time always reminds me my palate in not intuned with hype. Good. It was nice, but nice? Plenty to like here but Napa is full of wines that have plenty to like. Bottles you can actually get.

Sampled 12/31/09. I just don`t understand a big score for this wine. The tannins are still course and the fruit turns too sour and underripe on the finish, which does last quite a while. There are some impressive elements to this wine up front, but I just don`t see how this disjointed wine with some underripe fruits will ever turn into a blockbuster.

OK. I'm Impressed

Sampled 3/31/07. I normally don`t find the new California Cab choco fruit bombs particularly impressive, but this wine is incredible. Chocolate, black currant, cassis, sweet tobacco, soft leather and a hint of peppermint completely integrated in extremely well balanced acid, alcohol and tannins for a rich and rounded texture make this wine absolutely stunning with almost not decanting time. I doubt this will be a 20+ year wine, so it loses a point for that, but otherwise this is near perfection. Don`t think I`d pay $700 for it, but if you were on the original mailing list, then you did get your money`s worth.
