As good as it gets
Score: 100 points

You can taste the black cherry, blackberry and chocolate-mocha flavors from the start. Even though maturity is still a few years away this wine is ready to go and will only get better with time.

A subdued Harlan
Score: 93 points
Drink by: 3 to 7 years
This wine had that great Harlan structure with its associated complex and gritty finish that few others can replicate. But the fruit, and therefore the taste, was somehat subdued in this wine. Its taste did not change or improve that much over the course of 3 hours. What really surprised me, however, was that I enjoyed the 1999 Maiden more. Maybe this wine needs more time to evolve in the bottle.
