Monbousquet Bordeaux Blend 2000
An Excellent St. Emilion

2000 Monbousquet....another St. Emillion wine that just got better and better as the night went on.  I have been disappointed with some vintages of this wine in the past but this is one of the best Monbousquet's. Has balance between the fruit, acid and tannins. Notes of dark fruit and saddle leather along with coffee and chocolate on the nose. Very sweet and silky mouthfeel with both black and red fruit and a long  & sweet finish. Though still young this wine has decades ahead of it and will only get better. Great St. Emillion wines rock!!!!!!!

Monbousquet Bordeaux Blend 2000

Is it possible to know the texture of silk within the liquid state of one of Bordeaux's finest?  This wine, a St. Emilion Grand Cru will indulge you with one of the finer things in life.  A smooth gem that begs you to come closer works as a complement to a hearty steak or simply on its own as it teases you with its seductive qualities.  Certainly, you can spend all the money for a First Growth, but why, when a fraction of the price brings you equal joy and harmony.  Definitely enjoy now but it will hang on way past most of us.

Monbousquet '00 Redux
Score: 95 points
Drink by: 3 to 7 years
Sampled 11/09/09. After having a bottle that seemed to prematurely age a few nights earlier, I quickly tapped into the cellar for a couple more for a dinner party. The two bottles I opened were what I hoped and expected they would be. About 15 to 30 minutes in the glass and they were ready. Big beautiful blueberry and blackberry fruit. Some leather. Some tobacco. Some dried herbs. Beautifully layered. Smooth but not silky. And still at least 3 more years of peak drinking left in them.

Monbousquet 2000
Score: 93 points
Drink by: Now to 2 years
Sampled 11/06/09. This wine aged much faster than others which I have had in the past year or so. The wine was remarkably smooth and lighter than past bottles. The fruit was either starting to shed itself a little or the wine is going back into a hibernation. I suspect the former. Much more leather on this wine (much more like when the wine was first released and the leather hid the black and blue fruits). The blue and black fruits were soft and delicate, but tasty. I`ll need to try another bottle soon to figure out whether this wine is overall heading south prematurely or it was just this one bottle. Based upon this one bottle - drink up, but will reserve final judgment until I try another.

Starting to approach peak
Score: 94 points
Drink by: 3 to 7 years
Sampled 4/20/09. Decanted for 4 hours. Loads of burnt blueberries, tobacco, tar, a little velvet leather, hints of spice and sweet Oak. A dense and powerful wine whose tannins are starting to smooth out but remain long, drying and a little chewy. The peak for this wine is probably over the next 5 to 7 years and should be in top form in a couple more years. Could easily be a 95 point wine in that time.

Still don't love it as much as Parker, but it's pretty good
Score: 94 points
Drink by: 8 to 12 years
Sampled 8/18/08. Purple color that is starting to turning lighter and more purple/ruby. Blackberries, coffee, licorice, sweet Oak and herbs. A wine that still takes a couple hours to fully open, but it is a nice big wine with plenty going on. Still no sediment to speak of and can easily last another 7 to 10 years.

Another winner
Score: 94 points
Drink by: 3 to 7 years
Sampled 6/19/07. Decanted for 6 hours. This inky wine says anything but Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Leather, coffee, blackberries, spice on the nose and palate. It has a density to it that is like a meal in itself without the tannins being too chewy. The wine cries out for peppersteak. A very distinctive wine that really grows on you as its long finish sits with you.
