Tasted blind. Deep, dark purple color. Nose of creme de cassis, blueberry coulis, just all fruit. In the mouth, full bodied, a little out of balance, indicating quality and youth. I guessed 2001 Oakville Cab. The person pouring gave me three guesses and I got Plumpjack on the thrid guess. Needs to hibernate.

Tasted 10/21/04. This wine was very dark in color exhibiting a rich almost black hue that looked more like a rich petite syrah than a cabernet. Aroma was rich in blackberry and dark fruits with a hint of cocoa. This 2001 Plumpjack seems to be a wine that tends to be the wine of the day right now...extract the most color and intensity as possible. While the wine does show intense fruit and nice glycerin, it drinks hot with alcohol exploding from the glass directly into the sinuses. The balance is fair to good, but the wine is missing multiple layers of fruit that I can only hope will be prevalent in time. This is not a wine that I would recommend for the cellar because the fruit is already bursting. I would guess that if you throw this wine in the cellar it will not reward you. I would much prefer a less concentrated wine with more balance and complexity than this effort.

Had this one the same night as a 96 Cali Cab. What a great contrast. This one is deep purple and vibrant and loaded with fresh fruit and a touch of spice. Tannins are young and present but the wine is balanced. Lots of current/plum/black cherry flavor careening around the mouth that linger on a long rich finish. This wine is packed with fruit and tannin and so will probably be even better in a few years, but if you like them young you will not be disappointed right now.

Upon first opening this wine was a little too tight with tannins that canceled out the fruit. With extended breathing it opened up and became more soft and full flavored. I can think of better value plays, but I would drink this wine again.
