this wine was a delightful balance of new world extraction and old world style. Fresh aromas of black cherries, vanilla, cream, and earth please the nose, and the broad palate is rich and complex. Very fine, tightly knit tannins provide nice structure, and the wine finishes long and fine.

My initial thought on this wine was that it was another ringer, but I was utterly unable to guess what it might be. The big raisiny nose was reminiscent of a (poor) Amarone. Clearly over-ripe, jammy, and cloying, this was a very odd wine

I was struck immediately by the complex nose of ripe red fruits, earth, and graphite that introduced this wine. On the palate the supple tannins provided a wonderful structure for the complex layers of fruit, and the wine finishes smooth, fine, and long. Approachable now, this is still quite young and tannic, and will no doubt benefit from additional cellaring.

A really interesting and distinctive nose of cedar, strawberries, and earth, offer really deep inviting aromas for one to explore. Through the firm tannins one can distinguish too much oak, with smoky earth notes. A ripe wine that should benefit from years of cellaring for the taming of the tannins and, hopefully, the emergence of the underlying fruit which is only hinted at today.

Slightly cloudy and ruby in color, this wine's strongest attribute is in it's bright fruity nose at this point, with notes of blackberries, spice, and earth. The palate however is firmly tannic - almost painfully so, and utterly unyielding. Shows terrific promise for the future.

lovely, elegant nose of soft red fruits, graphite, and earth, yet the palate introduced a solid wall of firm tannins. This should be quite a nice wine once the tannins have had the opportunity to settle, but at this point it's hard as nails.

this impressive young wine delivers deep aromas of raspberries, smoke, minerals, and tar. One of those wines you can just be happy sniffing for a long while and exploring the deep intensity of aromas. Surprisingly approachable on the palate for such a young wine, rich, vibrant, and plush, with great balancing acidity and a fine long finish.

The huge nose offers tremendous black fruit, spice, smoke, and vanilla, while the palate matches that intensity with a full bodied, rich experience. Big ripe tannins, extracted but beautifully balanced, with a long delicious finish. Clearly California in style.

this displayed only light bricking on a medium ruby core. The nose clearly revealed some age, but offered terrific vibrant aromas of licorice, black cherries, and pencil lead. Youthful on the palate, with fresh acidity, and good intensity and depth, with a long pleasing finish.

Medium ruby in color with light bricking, the unpleasant nose was odd and suggestive of earthy dishwater. The palate was nice however, with nice texture and ripe tannins, making me wonder if this wine wasn't slightly corked.

Very dark red in color, nearly opaque, this wine presented as potentially damaged. The odd nose showed good fruit notes, but seemed somehow washed out, with some stinky undertones. On the palate the wine had a hollow mid-palate and lacked body and flavor overall.

Very light bricking, with a big, rich, youthful nose of raspberries, cream, earth, and vanillin. Very soft, light, and elegant on the palate, with beautifully integrated tannins, richly textured and smooth, with a rich long finish. Really nice stuff that still has years in front of it.

Dark red with very light bricking, the nose here is young, vibrant, and beautiful, with striking intensity and aromas of black cherries, graphite, and earth. Showing quite young, this wine could easily benefit from some additional years of rest. Medium bodied, with very fine rich tannins, excellent structure and balance, and a medium finish.

Very light bricking on a medium ruby core, the nose on this wine is really terrific - young and vibrant, with cherries, earth, pencil, and meat notes. Very nice feel in the mouth, with nice structure and supple tannins, but showing some very light green notes which detract slightly from the overall package.

The 1988 Haut Brion is showing excellent dark ruby color with very light bricking. The terrific nose delivers complex aromas of blackberries, cherries, bacon, and graphite. Medium in body, the tightly knit tannins provide a texture experience, with layers of fruit and secondary flavors., delicious stuff.

Moderate bricking around a clear ruby core. A classic Bordeaux nose, rich and complex with earth, graphite, cherries, and berries. Crisp and fresh on the palate, with moderately intense but beautifully rounded tannins, medium body, and an elegant finish that lingers on and on. Outstanding.

From half bottle, 14% alcohol. Displaying a beautiful deep golden color and crystal clear, the 1995 Pinot Gris presents intoxicating, exotic aromas Asian spice, pineapple, apricot, white flowers, and other aromas I can't quite identify. Initially the nose leads you to believe the wine may be sweet, but it is actually dry (or likely nearly dry) on the palate. Rich and deftly balanced, with generous layers of deep fruit and spice it is wonderfully complex and viscous, but never heavy or ponderous. Finishes with a delicious spicy, long, complex finish. Outstanding stuff, 94 points, drink now-2010.

Purchased at Trader Joes for $13.99 and sporting a startling 15.7% alcohol, the wine is a crystal clear golden color with aromas of ripe figs, toast, stones, light smoke, and citrus. Very ripe and rich on the palate, almost sweet, yet with good acidity and a viscous feel in the mouth, this actually carries the alcohol surprising well and doesn't come across hot. Not shy on the oak, and obviously very ripe this is a wine to enjoy now. 89 points.

A glass-staining dark opaque purple color, and with nose of surprising intensity with dense aromas of tar, cassis, and blackberries. Smooth and rich on the palate, with fine textured tannins, full body, and expansive flavors leading to a medium finish. Quite a nice wine that should drink well over the next 2-3 years. 90 points.

Medium ruby in color with a wonderful vibrant nose that is both powerful and elegant at the same time, offering up aromas of spice, earth, red plum, and raspberries. This wine is no less vibrant on the palate, with cleansing acidity, ripe fine tannins, and focused fruit flavors.

My first thought was that this smelled of sweat. Plenty of brett on the nose, along with leather and dry Provencial herbs. A raw, meaty element on the palate, a very traditional old world style wine.
