Dark amber. Strong and barleywine-ish aroma of orange peel, butterscotch/caramel, toffee, dried papaya/mango, oak, and alcohol. Extremely sweet. Full body. Soft tannins. Long finish. If this were less sweet, I`d easily rate this higher...the aroma is beautiful and the length is pretty substantial. Ultimately, I cut this with water to be able to drink it, and that`s even when serving it with a sweet dessert. As-is it`s nearly impossible to drink for me.

Medium yellow. Aroma is primarily apple, lime, minerals, flowers, and oak. Light to medium body. Semi-dry to dry. Soft tannins. Medium to long finish. The mouth experience is the best thing about this wine, as the nose provides little complexity or richness. A bit disappointing based on Parker`s score, but since this is supposed to be going into dormancy about now, I`ll try it again after 2010 as directed.

Dark reddish-purple. Nose includes blackberry, blueberry, raspberry, flowers, oak, and candy. Full body. Semi-sweet to semi-dry. Medium tannins. Medium finish. All in all a rich and delightful "drink me" wine, but doesn`t hold many secrets in its aroma, and doesn`t finish with particularly long length. Straightforward but satisfying. Probably still has several years of life left in it, though I can`t see it getting significantly better.

Inky dark purple. Black-hearted and sensuous aroma of blackberry, cassis, raspberry, cedar, pepper, crushed green leaves, graphite, coffee, dark chocolate, tobacco. Semi-sweet. Full body. Medium to heavy tannins. Medium to long finish. A blockbuster of extraction and lusciousness, this drinks beautifully already but should hopefully become more elegant and integrated in five years or so.

Medium red. Light nose of plum, raspberry, pepper, oak. Sweet to semi-sweet. Medium to full body. Medium tannins. Medium finish. Wow, I`m surprised how vapid this is in the nose, and how saccharine sweet it is in the mouth (tongue-coating and artificial tasting). Expected much better, tried two different bottles, both were drain pours. Having had a similarly poor experience with another Thorn-Clarke (the `02 Terra Barossa Cuvee Shiraz/Cab S/Cab F), I`m a bit confused by the high scores Parker gives in general.

Dark reddish-purple, unfiltered. Aroma of cherry & blackberry jam, spice box, toasted oak, potpourri, chocolate. Full body. Semi-sweet to semi-dry. Medium tannins. While neither luxurious nor hedonistic nor complex, this is still a nicely behaved wine...a bit more expensive than it shows, though ($27 for me...this is more of a $15 caliber wine).

Aroma of black cherry, raisin, blackberry, cranberry sauce, moss. allspice, and cooked meat. Full body. Semi-sweet to semi-dry. Medium to heavy tannins. Medium to long finish. Very nice stuff for the price ($32), but this needs cellar time to reveal its full potential.

Medium to dark reddish-purple, some bricking. Lovely complex nose of black cherry, blackberry, blueberry, meat, violet/lavender, chocolate, mint, undergrowth, virginal choirboy flesh, leather, charred oak, and licorice. Medium to full body. Semi-sweet to semi-dry. Soft tannins. Long finish. What can I say? It`s a cerebral, intellectual experience, very soft and elegant. I think I`d have liked this to the tune of a 100 if I`d had it 5 years ago (a little more tannic grip would be ideal). I`m just glad I had an opporunity to sample this before its (and my!) lifetime was over.

Dark reddish-purple. Aroma of black raspberry, cherry jam, herbs/leaves, leather, burnt oak. Medium body. Semi-dry. Heavy tannins. Medium finish. A bit harsh and straightforward, even after several hours of aeration. Needs more time in the cellar for sure, but it doesn`t seem to have tremendous aging potential either...timid fruit and seemingly light on structure. Ok, but not something I`d buy again, regardless of price.

Dark red. Aroma of raspberry, strawberry, blueberry, flowers, charred cedar, graphite, vanilla. Medium to full bodied. Semi-sweet to semi-dry. Medium tannins. Medium finish. Wow, I typically don`t care much for grenache (or GSMs), as they`re often very light and floral and simple. This is something else. Very richly extracted and decadent, and surprisingly full-bodied. Very raspberry-fruity and starts on the sweet side, but ultimately balanced well and not without some terroir and oak subtleties. Hard to stop drinking. Makes me want to really start trying more straight grenache, perhaps some Clarendon Hills?

Dark reddish-purple. Aroma of black cherry, blackberry, violet, cologne, leather, oak. Full body. Semi-sweet to semi-dry. Medium to heavy tannins. Medium finish. Still needs several more years IMHO, as it`s still quite fruit-forward and plenty tannic. Several hours of aeration provided little extra insight into the future this may hold. Very nice fruity wine as-is, but lacks the complexity and structure I expected to find, and isn`t particularly decadent in the mouth.

Dark reddish-purple. Aroma of blackberry, raspberry, cassis, flowers, pepper, leaves, oak, mint. Semi-sweet. Full body. Medium tannins. Medium finish. Surprisingly good...definitely fruit-forward (and doesn`t seem to have the stuffing for long-term cellaring), but in a very good way and very delightful in the mouth experience. If you like the dark-fruited Aussies, $10-12 will get you this great QPR.

Dark purple. Aroma of black cherry, mushrooms, wet earth, blueberry, straw, undergrowth, flowers, leather, antique oak, licorice. Semi-sweet to semi-dry. Full body. Medium tannins. Medium to long finish. Wow! Serious terroir here...forget what you think about all Aussie wines being fruit bombs and track this monster down. Outstanding in the mouth...very soft and velvety, but still intense in flavor. Big thumbs up.

Dark purple, fair amount of bricking. Aroma of black cherry, rose, leather, caramel, tobacco, cardboard. Semi-dry to dry. Medium to heavy tannins. Medium finish. Seems to be on the downslope of its life...not much fruit or sweetness left, leaving it rather harsh and stark. Not a total wash, but don`t wait any longer if you have any in your cellar.

Dark reddish-purple. Aroma of raspberry, plum, flowers, potpourri, whole wheat bread, blackberry, blueberry, eucalyptus, graphite, scorched oak. Full bodied. Semi-sweet. Medium tannins. Medium finish. Fruity, floral, semi-hedonistic, quite tasty. Not especially elegant or structured, mind you, and little to remind one of Bordeaux, but it`s hard to deny the delight factor...plain old juicy Aussie yumminess, this is.

Dark purple. Aroma of black cherry, raspberry, plum, toast, oak, flowers, candy, leather, hint of barnyard. Medium to full bodied. Semi-sweet to semi-dry. Medium tannins. Medium finish. Surprisingly good bargain Bordeaux. Nice tannins and well-balanced in the mouth. A little more fruit-forward than most Bordeaux.

Dark reddish-purple. Aroma of raspberry, cherry, blackberry, plum, leaves, oak, flowers. Semi-sweet to semi-dry. Medium to full bodied. Light to medium tannins. Medium finish. Not much tannic backbone to provide grip, so this falls down a little in the mouth. Otherwise, quite luscious.

Dark purple. Aroma of raisin, plum, black cherry, violet, raspberry, vanilla, barnyard, toast. Semi-sweet to semi-dry. Full body. Medium tannins. Medium to long finish. Somewhat unique for an Aussie Shiraz...concentrated raisiny/pruney fruit smell that`s rather like Amarone in character. Nice balance and very juicy. Some Bretty waft keeps this below 90 for me, though.

Dark reddish-purple. Aroma is black cherry, blackberry, oak, caramel, flowers. Semi-sweet. Full body. Medium tannins. Medium finish. About as leggy in the glass as it gets, very attractive. Aroma is somewhat Cali-style (candy-like, raw oak), but it`s quite a nice experience in the mouth...very viscous, velvety, and dare I say sexual. Nice amount of tannin for drinking right now, but this probably needs a couple years to be optimal.

Dark purple. Well-integrated nose of blackberry, leather, strawberry, violet, crushed leaves, white chocolate, charred wood. Medium to full bodied. Semi-dry. Heavy tannins. Not quite ready for drinking just yet (quite tannic), and was all over the board aromatically through its 3-hour or so decanting/sampling time. But wow, at its peak, just over an hour of air, the nose was that elusive "whole is more than the sum of its parts" kind of thing.

Dark inky purple, unfiltered. Powerful, mostly masculine aroma of black raspberry, leather, black cherry, earth, cassis, anise, mocha, tobacco, incense, cologne. Full body. Semi-dry. Medium tannins. Medium to long finish. Still plenty of fruit in the nose, but integrated nicely with the structural components...very attractive. Supple yet firm tannins. Quite dry already (too much so for my girlfriend to want to buy this again), dunno that I would cellar this too much longer.

Dark red. Aroma of cherry, plum, PacNW hops (pine resin), blackberry, cedar, flowers, crushed leaves. Semi-sweet to semi-dry. Medium body. Medium to full tannins. Medium finish. Pleasant and tasty, but definitely needs aeration. Folks who are familiar with west coast American IPAs will certainly notice the resemblance to domestic hops here.

Dark red. Powerful, mostly masculine nose of cherry, earth, flowers, rain, licorice, leather, band-aid, barnyard, cooked meat, charred oak, raisin. Medium body. Semi-sweet to semi-dry. Medium tannins. Medium to long finish. The Bretty/band-aid aroma will probably turn off some folks, but as a longtime lover of Belgian ale (e.g., Orval), this is not a problem for me. This is a rustic but very charming and complex wine that somehow seems more Italian than French. Great bargain ($10!), and drinking right now.
