i have had the pleasure to taste most modern vintages of the first growths, right bank, left bank micro producers and have never had the pleasure of tasting wine like this, for a wine geek, its the apex of what we look for in wines. the mouthfeel is in itself a reassuring glimpse of what is to come, esp after the seeming kaliedescope of aromas that come wafting out, engulfing your senses,a nose so huge you can close your eyes and almost asssign a colors to the varioius concentrated palate of aromas . can it get better? amazingly so,the answeris yes!! the perfect balace of the silky, perefectly integrated tannins and the balance between alch.,. fruit, texture and the classic lafite aromas makes it easy to understand why this wine rates 100 points. it just makes me wonder how the critics can rate anything else a perfect score after tasting this wine. this wine reminds me of why i get excited about wines perfection doesnt come around as often as one mighthave us think, here is the proof.let the pretenders fall out.

what a revelation!!!!! a simply amazing merlot from a spectacular cab producer who didnt miss a beat with this offering. rich, opulent and seamless, drinking beautifully now but will age gracefully for 10 + years with out a problem
drank with the signature double cut heirloom pork chop and a crispy sweetbread and veal hash with local jumbo lump crab with a rustic beurre blanc with chive, stone ground mustard and tarragon,a signature dish from mr emerils pork obsessed mind[my salad was abita springs ROOT BEER braised pork belly, mixed greens, gorgonzola and spiced pecans, with yucca "croutons" fried in duck fat...wow]
so much for the "no more merlot movement"[thank you "sideways" ,move over to the cabs and pinots folks, leave this one for me]this one should put merlot back where it belongs....with petrus and le pin merlot at its finest, sign me up,i only hope i can hang onto a couple of bottles to see how it ages. what a wine hubba hubba

the finest example of grenache based wine that i have tasted outside of the sine qua non examples.rich, pure fruit, ripe tannins structured to last a long time and to continue on its path to excellence. as young as this wine is,one can only wish that time would fly so that you can chart the development of this superb example of grenache.seldom does this varietal make any major strides in the states, nor can it be held up for comparison with chateauneufs finest, but this wine will indeed turn heads on both sides of the pond when it shakes its baby fat.saxum just gets better and better, ignoring the status quo and doing it his way, blending, lengthy soak times, stems added back in after drying?,semi drying grapes? what will this wizard of paso robles give us next to play with......i for one cant wait!!!!!!!!!

its not often that a wine can live up to its praise and reviews when its been piled on by so many, but im here to report that this wine defies description, finess comes to mind, ageless is another good descriptor, but the reality is this wine is truly the benchmark with which to measure all other classic long lived bordeaux,or for that matter any other world class wine.
having had the opportunity over the years to follow this wines in its development,it is still is an ageless monster that may last forever.
the wine itself is still a broodingly dark, brilliant ox blood color to the rim,not even a hint of bricking, all of this at age 25.
the aromas of cigar box, pencil shavings, graphite, oriental spices and leather that are so typical of cht. lafite and with tis wine they are so perfectly integrated and melded into one another, one has to wonder if an alchemist hasnt finally broken some ancient age-old code, this wine seems to be almost mystical and supernatural as it evolves in the glass, after an hour its magic in a glass, not an illusion,,it is with out a doubt the longest finishing wine ive ever tasted.
the finish is so multi-layered,long lasting and pure its not to be forgotten by even a novice taster.
i tasted this wine most recently on 9/1/07 and cant even begin to do it justice by describing it,it must be tasted to be belived.
if you only had one wine to drink for the rest of your life, let it be 1982 lafite, one can only hope that the recent over hyped, over priced, vintages will live up to their ancestory..........100 point wines.........perfection.....it does exist
