| 2006 - Castellare Chianti Classico |
| Excellent Chianti |
| Nov 03, 2009 |
|
|
| The best one I've had to date; which isn't saying much because my local stores don't carry much in Italian chianti's, but I like this very much. Not too dry, with a smooth finish and good body. |

| Medium red
with bright, candy red rim. Sharp, tart nose full of earth, wild mushroom, and
sour black cherry. Very interesting. The high acidity on the palate is kept in check by
the strong tannins in the mid to rear palate, and this interplay is complimented
by new oak, cranberry, and sour cherry. A solid wine from a great vintage. |

| 2006 - Querciabella, Agricola Chianti Classico |

Let me preface this note by saying that I was in Chianti with my
dad in November 2006 shortly after harvest so I have a tough time
bagging on any wine from that vintage / area. With that said this is
actually a pretty stellar wine from top to bottom. It boasts a real
savory component on the nose with some dried plum, anise, and sage.
Some meaty / gammy character as well with light salt-water. This is so
clearly Italian (in a good way) - It shows what Chianti is all about
when produced in a fashion wherein the Sangiovese grape can express itself without
being over-dressed to mimic a more 'modern' wine, which it's not. This
should age well, but it's so nice right now - Why wait?

| 2003 - Falesco Sangiovese IGT |
| Loved it! |
| Jun 08, 2008 |
|
|
| Some will disagree with me on this but I thought this was better than the 01. The streak of blackberry running through the middle is just great, and the firm ripe tannins serve as a reminder that this is still just a baby. Great balance for 2003 - some of these "Super Tuscans" are just overdone in this vintage, but I liked this one a lot. |

| 2001 - Falesco Sangiovese IGT |
| Italian and Tasty! |
| Jun 08, 2008 |
|
|
| This was an extremely tasty Italian wine we had with roasted lamb. Rustic yet elegant notes of mushrooms, earth, and cassis on the nose turn to bright fruit on the midpalate and finish. Tannins are mild and well integrated. I would say you get a lot of bang for your buck here. |

| 2001 - Cacchiano, Castello di Chianti Classico |
| Chalky Mushrooms and Soil |
| Jun 04, 2008 |
|
|
| If you want Italian wine flavors - this delivers it. It's ok stuff, but the alcohol is pretty strong (13%). It about blows your nose away with the alcohol smell. It tastes very slightly of plums, strawberries, black cherry, and walnut. There's a chalky finish in the wine's aftermath. |

| This wine has a nose of coffee and blackberries and a little toffee.Fruit foward wine with lite tannins that carry you through to the blackberry finish..nice finish in this wine as well. Paired very well with spaghetti and meatballs with spicy marinara. Another good wine |

| 2004 - Grati Poggio Caliga Chianti Riserva |
| Great Finish |
| Jun 03, 2008 |

|
| This wine is a massive and explosive Chianti that just has such a great mix of new and old world flavors and the best finish I have seen in a Chianti in a long time! The fruit is great but the finish is awesome. |

| 2001 - Grati Poggio Caliga Chianti Riserva |
| Strong but Reserved |
| Jun 03, 2008 |
|
|
| This is a very strong wine. Smooth, but not overly complex. More fruity than your standard run-of-the-mill Chianti. Not too tannic. Most importantly (for me at least) the beautiful Italian dirt still shows up and the terroir is present. Nice finish. |

| 2004 - Isole e Olena Chianti Classico |
| 89 Pointer |
| Jun 03, 2008 |
|
|
| This vintage is another really solid effort, and deserves nothing less than 89 points. And, because it edges its way into 90-point territory when aerated to perfection, I'll give it 89+. Tastes very similar to the 2003 cherry and spice notes. |

| 2003 - Isole e Olena Chianti Classico |
| Try with steak |
| Jun 03, 2008 |
|
|
| This wines finish is not as long or as rich as I'd like, but offers hints of raspberry, cherry, and even spices that are difficult to find elsewhere. Tired as the pairing may be, this is really nice with a grilled steak, covered in freshly ground pepper. |

| 2001 - Isole e Olena Chianti Classico |
| Good depending on your palate |
| Jun 03, 2008 |

|
| A very quintessential Sangiovese. The nose suprised me with tomato paste, and hints of molasses and carob. This is full of really nice sour cherry, as well as some toasted rye, worm dirt, and lambs blood. Yum for some - too much for others. |

| Best Red Wine of the Summer |
| Jun 03, 2008 |

| This vintage delivers again with touches of cherry, fertile soil, strawberries and fennel. A delicious wine. Absolute steal. Next to the 2001 vintage I recently had this is best red wine of the summer. |

| 2001 - Volpaia, Castello di Chianti Classico Riserva |
| Great Chianti |
| Jun 03, 2008 |
|
|
| It has a bouquet of Sour Cherries, and the most fertile soil ever! Hints of Tobacco and tinges of dark plum and blackberry. The flavor profile is unbelievably rich and complex without being overwhelmingly heavy. Drink over the next 10 years! |

| 2000 - Il Palazzino, Poderie Chianti Classico Riserva |
| Wait, but good |
| Jun 03, 2008 |
|
|
| This is an Italian fruit bomb with lots of sour cherry and hints of tobacco. A bit lighter than what I expected but a decent effort. I would prefer it with a few more years in the cellar. |

| 2001 - Altesino Rosso di Montalcino |
| Excellent From Italy |
| May 30, 2008 |

| The perfume of flowers and spring time draws you in on the nose, and then the lovely layers of mint milk chocolate and strawberry sorbet only not cold, finish you off with a nice 3 minute finish. Enjoy! |

| 2001 - Boscarelli De Ferrari (Sangiovese) |
| Not For Me |
| May 29, 2008 |
|
|
| This was a little too earthy and mushroomy (if that's a word) for my tastes. I talk it with a grain of salt that Italian wines need food to be enjoyable, but for me, this wine needs a lot more than a great meal. Tannins are rough and the alcohol sticks out too much. Pass. |

| 2001 - Silverado Vineyards Sangiovese |
| Why? |
| May 28, 2008 |
|
|
| Why grow Sangiovese in California is my first question. It just has never made any sense to me. Also no one seems to do it well. This wine is no exception. The wine is ok as a table wine for pizza but its not as good as so many Italian wines that are less expensive and more interesting. |
