2006 - Elderton Semillon Riverina Botrytis
Decent screw cap dessert wine...

Picked this one up at the Utah State liquor store on a whim. Color was a light amber, just a little darker than straw. Not as viscous as the Dolce or its French siblings. I was a little surprised to see a 2006 so soon and looked over the bottle to be sure that it was not an ice wine. The nose was a bit non-descript. The closest thing I could come up with was 'petrol' or almost a subtle vasoline scent. Not exactly what I would call appealing. On the palate, the sweetness was not overwhelming and this wine has a solid acidity with a true citrisy note on the relatively short finish of about 10-15 seconds. Floral notes, honey and only a slight botrytis note came through.

Not sure I'd buy again, but might be fun for friends doing a bleu cheese tasting. As a stand alone dessert wine, C+

This was an interesting bottle of wine. Bright amber color, very thick. Nose of honey, dried apricot and a bit of saffron. I'm not sure if this was naturally infected with botrytis or not. Full bodied, creamy and too sweet. Like a sweet honey/vanilla creme brulee. Super long finish, however. It just needs some more acidity. It was okay.

This wine thinks outside the box, delivers outside its price range and is an excellent wine to pop open outside on a warm summers day.  The freshness and crisp fruit make this wine perfect for Chinese food.

This is certainly not a bad wine, it's just not interesting enough to merit more than 2 stars.  Every other $20 shiraz will delivers what this wine delivers and more.  Spice, dark fruit, and some smoke - which again isn't bad but this one is on the light side for all of those componets.

Medium gold color with a bright rim. Rich aromas of yellow pear with a sweet beeswax and honey note around vanilla and lemon. Very round, mellow and approachable on the palate. Great balance of fruit and acidity. Lush pears and golden delicious apples with a hint of honeycomb. Long, lingering finish.13% ABV
