2005 - Smoking Loon Viognier

A fine white, smooth with no after bite or after taste on the palate, with hints of nada--- no peaches no fruit, it's fine with exotic spicy Thai or Japanese fusion cuisine or your favorite sushi and sashimi, linguine with clams in a white sauce or Cajun Style, Four-Cheese Fettucine Alfredo with shrimp. Goes well with a steak for those who are not slaves to the red or white wine convention. An excellent choice to compliment a Philly Cheese Steak Hoagie served up in those little towns in the Thousand Islands region of Eastern Ontario (Canada) which make their own cheeses. A delightful companion to a toasted pastrami & provolone & tomato fast food submarine/hero shoppe sandwich when adorned with black olives and banana peppers.

I have to disagree with previous comments. This wine to me just fell flat on its face. Maybe I had a bad bottle, but the fruit was so thin that it was almost like flavored water. The wine itself was som weak that any acidity or crispness it had was gone in seconds. Pass.

Typical notes of stone fruit (esp. apricot) and honey on the nose. Initial impresson on the palate is fruit-driven but it falls off quickly and ends rather short. Sharp alcoholic finish, almost like rubbing alcohol. Not a wine to recommend per se but it offers tantalizing hints of what a good viognier can taste like.

I loved their other vintages, but this one was off balanced. This was about $25 and I've had better viogniers from CA. Too much fruit and not enough acidity, and did not go with the seafood dish I had.

2005 - Vins de Vienne, Les Condrieu la Chambee
Lightly creamy plus olives

Condrieu Les Vins de Vienne is a white wine from the Rhone Valley, made
of the viognier grape. A premium-priced wine, it is a yellow-golden
color in the glass. Aroma is lightly creamy with olives. On the palate,
you first notice a smooth middle-mouth flavor of light purple/floral
flavors, followed by a mild finish. Two stars out of five, with a plus
for smoothness. But not value for cost to my reckoning.

| Toasty nose, with minerals and tart apple. In the mouth tart pear
flavors, medium bodied but seemed very light. Very good quality. |

This sweet dessert wine is a good value at around $15 per half bottle. Very very light yellow color and not very viscous. Melons, honey, green apples on the nose. Lightly sweet palate, hints of pineapple, honeydew, and honey with a moderate acidity. 30 second finish which ends with a bit of a lemon-like tang. Overall, a can't miss for the price.
