2006 - Mollydooker The Boxer
Snuffles experience!
Nov 03, 2010
1 star 1 star 1 star 1 star 1 star
June 2007: LIVE Rating: this is dark almost opaque in the glass. The aroma of purple cream, just like the 2005. On the palate, there is a burst of multiple flavors. Plums, chocolate, cream. These are moving across the palate, and moving through time with the tannins. Oh, yes, I'll stay with this, and drink more than I should. 5 stars. This wine was tasted as part of a Mollydooker Tasting Dinner - 2006 Vintage.--------------------------------------------------July 2007: Tasted again from a full bottle at home: Still perfectly opaque in the glass, turning purple just at the rim. The violets and cream nose shows just a touch of light milk chocolate too. A bit of alcohol heat pumps out in the aroma this time, since the bottle is at a warm room temperature, having just come off a UPS truck. This nose is like a pleasant dream. But the good thing is, you'll wake up to a sip!On the palate, you get that chocolate-covered, plumy-sweet grape sensation all over your mouth... top, bottom, sides... the intense, deep fruit stands up to the 16.0% alcohol and lasts and lasts and lasts. No change to the five stars out of five rating. Best wine value on the planet, in one man's opinion.Remember Snuffles the dog who loved dog biscuits on Quick Draw McGraw... he would float down from the ceiling hugging himself after being fed one of those magic biscuits. Well I'm Snuffles and this is the biscuit...More reviews at spiritofwine.blogspot.com

2006 - R Winery Suxx Shiraz
SUXX doesn't!
Nov 03, 2010

Hmmm, interesting label; the SUXX Shiraz hails from R Winery. Well, let's see if it lives up to its name.In the glass, SUXX Shiraz pours a deep purple red - almost opaque. Nose is rich and deep of candied cherry. On the palate, a deep, bold, fully-coated flavor of dark chocolate-covered cherries. Alcohol is noticeable (not surprising at 15.9%) and it carries the slightly furry fruit into the corners of your mouth. Not huge character, but a robust, hedonistic sip. Since I'd stick with it for a day, that's four stars out of five. At its modest price, that puts it in my best value category. So I have to say, for the record, SUXX doesn't.But WARNING, I'm obviously a fan of bold Aussie shiraz, and I haven't had one in awhile. I am not comparing this to a reference wine, so absence may not only make the heart grow fonder, but the rating higher.More reviews at spiritofwine.blogspot.com.

2006 - Yellow Tail Shiraz
Extraordinary for the price
Nov 03, 2010

This is the second in my "take one for the team" series of reviews of Yellow Tail wines, an Australian line that checks in at the "practically free" price point. My earlier review was of the Yellow Tail Merlot, a good - though not great - value. This time we'll check out the Yellow Tail Shiraz, vintage 2006. In the glass, it does show a deep purple magenta, not quite opaque. In the glass, a black raspberry and prune candy aroma pumps out, quite sweet in its tone and reminding me somewhat of the Juan Gil Jumilla from Spain. On the palate, there is a furry, lightly oaked dark fruit as the first note, hitting squarely in the mid-mouth. A sweetness and modest tannic cloak circulates the flavors into the rest of your jaw. Just a slight touch of acids joins the tannins and fruit for a balanced finish. Three full stars out of five. Extraordinary for the price. Since the three stars *** are two notches higher than the price category $, this qualifies as a great value. No surprise that this is such a big seller.More reviews at spiritofwine.blogspot.com.

Crumbly cork.

Still dark with nary a inkling of age. A nose of flower petals, lavender and calla-lilies which only got better as this sat in my glass for a hour plus. The palate had a wonderful depth of fruits: some black cherry, creme de Cassi's, and red plum. There was a lilty graphite note which was meshed beautifully with some lavender, tar, and earth, good earth that is. An extremely elegant, delicate and lovely wine with super balance and class. A minute plus on the back. This came out of the gate a winner and never fell behind. Wow. WOTF & WOTN 95pts

2005 - Hazyblur Shiraz

Very dark red, almost black, with a bright pink rim.  Incredibly multilayered nose that you can feel go into your head and down your throat!  Intoxicating nose of dusty, sweet cherry and blueberry, dark flowers, ample spice, a hint of wood, pork fat, and a tiny bit of powdered chocolate.  On the palate it's huge and lush, filling the mouth with velvety flavors.  The finish lasts for over a minute with a sweetness balanced by ample acid that's quite pleasing.  Any tannins are very soft.  This is an opulent, delicious wine with personality.

Dark ruby core with a lighter pinkish/garnet rim. Spicy and medicinal on the nose with some black fruits. Very fruity on the palate. A touch of heat leading to a jammy, somewhat cloying sweet spicy finish.

Lovely Shiraz. Bright black fruits aroma with underlining coffee, toffee and confection tone. We had it with beef satay, grilled Taiwanese sausage with garlic and roasted veggie and was surprised to find out how Asian-food friendly this wine is.

As being a little bit expensive, this is a very presentable wine that won't fail your guests' expectation for dinners if served with the right food.

2006 - Yellow Tail Shiraz The Reserve
Great QPR

This wine caught my attention after reading the WS review that scored it 89...and my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Fruit forward, balanced, and delicious, we kept pouring a little bit more...until it was gone. At such a low price, it's a great QPR...just make sure you get "the reserve" and not the regular Yellowtail, as there's a huge difference.

2005 - Mollydooker Goose Bumps Sparkling Shiraz
Great Surprise

This is the only sparkling shiraz I've ever had but it was really good! It tastes like strawberries and blueberries, has a good texture, and leaves a bit of ginger in the aftertaste. The bubbles are great and as a whole it's very enjoyable. Pricey but worth every penny.

Great structure compared to other vintages.  This is a wine that based on the value I would buy a case of.  Lovely floral and cinammon nose, which is followed by an even lovelier strawberry and blackberry dominated palate.  The spice and vanilla oak are in the background cheering the fruit on! This is the best of the Kaesler!

Good but I wouldn't think of it as my first choice! It has loads of cherry and blackfruits, some oak, but not too much for me, and wow, a slap in the face of alcohol like I took a shot of vodka, velvety at first but dissapointed in the finish, mouthfeel was medium bodied but then faded away quite quickly and then you get the alcohol, which is too much. I didn't decant, maybe that would help. Overall, I'd definiately drink it again but probably won't go out of my way to do so.

Good fruit and big vanilla oak win me over. The nose is fruity, jammy, vanilla bean, motor oil, alcohol. The taste profile is cherries, raspberries, "cough medicine." This was a big wine with a strong flavor. It was vert smooth, but you can definately tell that there is a lot of alcohol. The flavor was not overly fruity, there was good balance, but I wish the finish had been longer.

Good but again...

very typical of an Aussie shiraz. It is delicious, offering super jammy notes and amazing density. For me though, it just falls short on several levels, offering little to no complexity as well as very pronounced alcohol on the finish. The noticeable lack of tannin, coupled with a general sense of being out of balance, suggest this wine will fall apart in less than two years. Enjoy now!
