2006 - Rippon Vineyard Pinot Noir

Deep ruby , with a slightly lighter rim.  The nose has a plethora of red and black fruits including raspberry, cranberry, blackberry, and black cherry.  The fruit notes are balanced nicely by the complex earth and spice driven components like licorice, rhubarb, forest floor, and floral notes.  This wine has a elegant mouth-feel and a long complex finish that lingers pleasantly for 45+ seconds.  This wine shows tremendous depth and provides great pleasure now but will age for at least 8-10 years.  Whether you enjoy Burgundy or California Pinot this is one that is sure to please both palates!

Medium ruby red to garnet with a pink rim.  Complex nose of black fruits, tangy cherry, and some violet.  Nice balance on this medium weight wine with more flavors of cherry & rhubarb on the palate, and the finish goes on for well over a minute!  Highly recommended.

This was the last year of the vertical that we tasted and it was more of the same: lighter then you would like to see and just an overall disappointment. The lack of finish and unfocused fruit make this wine a total pass.  I wonder how these wines were stored also.

Better but not Good enough

This vintage doesn't deliver either. It was pretty much just another Pinot Noir. It was fine to drink, pleasant enough, but overall unremarkable. If it was less expensive it'd be a good standby to keep on hand, but given the price I don't think I'll be bothering to purchase it again.

This wine is just off, it is very basic and quite light without much structure. After it is decanter it develops a bitter after taste. Acid, not smooth. The fruit is so light that I can't even pinpoint the flavors.

NEW ZEALAND SAYS HELLO!

I really enjoyed this pinot from the Kiwi's.  Overall it had a wonderful structure and good balance to the wine.  The earthy undertones carry the strawberry and raspberry fruit all the way down your throat.  Earthier style will either make you love this wine or hate it. I loved it as a nice change of pace! Decant for at least an hour.

Nice Pinot noir but could be more with earth, berries, a bit CA like,   maybe i should have had this when I got it or maybe it's in a dumb phase. I'll try another one in a year or 2.

Kim Crawford Pinot is just not up to par with it's Sav. Blanc.  It is very one dimensional, with little fruit and lots of acid.

NZ Pinot? Not bad...

In the glass, this wine shows nice bright red depth and a fresh light pink hue at the rim. It lacks some of the dusky hues often associated with some Pinot Noirs. The nose is surprisingly complex with dried cherry, sweet chocolate, light earthiness and bramble with a hint of hard fruit candy. On the palate, this wine is light, as suits a good Pinot, and shows off red fruits with a sweet edge, developed acid and tannins, and a consistent finish. This is a good wine to go with pork or duck dishes that are accompanied by fruit based sauces.
