| 2003 - Quinta do Vale Meao |
| Good Stuff |
| May 31, 2008 |

|
| Big nose starts you off with mint and spice, then the fruit drives your tongue with cassis and rubarb. This wine may have the best guts to last the longest of all the vintages that I've tried. Good for 10+ years. |

| Big flavors again on this fruit forward but well structure portugal wine. Nice mint and dark chocolate stand out immediately to me, and are followed by cherries and plum. |

| 2005 - Quinta do Vale Meao |
| Yummy |

|
| THis Portuguese wine is a great example of the high quality non-port wines coming out of that country. The vanilla oak wraps around this fruit forward wine - tastes like cherries covered in raspberry sauce, topped with granite. |

| 9998 - Quinta do Infantado Vintage Port |
| Very Basic |
| May 31, 2008 |
|
|
| This is what you would expect from a restraunts low end port wines. The flavors of port are there but its so watered down compared to other ports. Not sure what the price is on this wine but anything over 12 bucks is too much. |

| 9998 - Dow Tawny Port 20 year old |
| Plump Port |
| May 30, 2008 |

|
| This was a very "plump" wine with lots of coffee and raisin flavors filling your mouth by the gobs. This was a wonderful after dinner drink and was sooo yummy before bed. Helped me sleep. |

| 9998 - Taylor Twenty Year Tawny Port |
| Nice |
| May 23, 2008 |

|
| Good Port, that most should be able to fall in love with. A little bit simple to me compared to other ports in this price range, but easy to find and a very safe choice. Chocolate, rasins, carmel and black liquorice. |

| 9998 - Taylor Twenty Year Tawny Port |
| Wonderful Porto... |
| May 15, 2008 |
|
|
| Popped and poured. After 9 reds this wine was like jetfuel. Explosive nose of caramel, butterscotch, brandied raisins and quite a bit of heat. Should have lowered the temp a bit. Nice sweetness and mouthfeel. Quite spicy, almost like a single malt scotch spiciness. This went wonderfully with a Roaring Forties Bleu Cheese. Great porto. |

| 2002 - Prats & Symington Chryseia |
| Let it breathe |
| May 12, 2008 |
|
|
| At first, this wine was a bit harsh, but after breathing for a few
hours it opened up reasonably well. The next day, the flavors showed
through even more, in fact, I raised the rating a bit. There is some
fruit in there and the tannins are not overdone. Reasonable bottle. I
have another, and I am not certain how long to leave it. |

| 9998 - Dow Tawny Port 20 year old |
| Mellow, round, nutty middle... |
| Apr 28, 2008 |
|
|
Dow is one of the oldest Port wineries, dating to 1798. Fruit is from the Upper Douro region of Portugal.
This Dow 20 Year Tawny Port is light to medium brick red in the glass. Aromas are light and sweet, oozing tobacco and tar.
On
the palate, there is a hot alcohol blast with the sweetness. This rolls
along into a mellow, round, nutty middle, with an even, lingering
finish. Nice. Three stars out of five, with a plus for plushness.

| 2005 - Dao Sul Quinta de Cabriz |
| Light but delicious |
| Apr 28, 2008 |
|
|
This is a "practically-free" offering from the not-widely-known Dao
region of portugal. In the glass, the Quinta de Cabriz for 2005 is
medium deep red. Aromas are woody bramble, with hints of violets. The
palate shows a round middle of fruits like blackberry and blueberry.
There is a full, lengthy, fruit-tinged finish. Three stars with a plus.
It is just shy of four stars because of lighter levels of extraction.
But what a screaming value!

| 1980 - Warre Vintage Port |
| Yum Yum |
| Sep 12, 2007 |
|
|
| Lacking eloquence and proper terminology (bear with me...I'm learning), let me just say this wine was an absolute treat. My first Port of any kind, and it really lived up to all the hype (mostly manufactured by my own inflated expectations). I can't wait to have more More MORE! |
