A pretty wine with nice floral notes, bright stone fruits, and crisp minerality. This is a clean and refreshing wine I get notes of Peaches, Apples, and Pear. This had great acidity!

This wasn't as good as later vintages. I can't quite say exactly what it was that was different but the balance didn't seem quite right. The cherries and tobacco are still nice, but the oak isn't quite as smooth as other vintages. |

2004 - Thelema Cabernet Sauvignon |
Good for SA Lovers |

If you enjoy the wines of South Africa like I do, then this is certainly a wine I would recommend seeking out. However, if you're more drawn to fruit forward or fruit bomb style wines - I'd say pass. The terroir is really shinning through on this wine with a nice balance of earth and fruit to give this wine good complexity. Drink now. |

2005 - Groote Post Sauvignon blanc |
Dry to the Oak |

The oak is in control of this wine - no doubt, but it isn't a bad as most oak driven wines. The crisp lemon and pear fruit flavors are still hanging in there right next to the fruit and make a wonderful pairing. Still - too much oak. |

2005 - Glen Carlou Chardonnay Reserve |
Great Stuff |

Just like the 2004 version of this wine, except it has more lemon on the nose and it has a little bit more complexity being driven by various flavors of stone and terroir. Great example of South African wines on top of their game. |

Not Quite There |

This wine was a little bit too warm for my palate. This wine is normally very crisp and on the lighter side but this year seemed to be more alcohol and oak driven than the crisp melon fruit and lemon. Try other vintages. |

this is my style white wine. Very clean, not dominated by oak, and easy to pair with food. would recommend this wine to anyone who enjoys a lighter styled wine but with a wonderful minerality. |

2000 - Groote Post Sauvignon blanc |
Dry Sav |

This was a very dry Sauvignon Blanc from South Africa. The fruit is very light and somewhat submissive to the dried oak flavors. This wine is a miss for me as a whole, except that it would be good to cool down with on a summer night. |

2004 - Glen Carlou Cabernet Sauvignon |
Nice Cabernet |

Good structure and length out of this value priced cabernet. Outside of the US there are still lots of value cabernets and this is one of them. Perfect with a steak, the tannins melt away after decanting and the earth and fruit pour over the palate. |

Nice crisp wine that will work well with most foods. I am a big fan of Glen Clarou and the wines they produce. This wine is easy on the palate - light fruit and not over oaked. |

2004 - Spice Route Pinotage |
Wonderful |

This is an excellent example of pinotage. The fruit is not overpowered by the cedar and cinammon flavors that shine from the get go. This is a wine that some might hate so beware, but for my money its an interesting wine with style. |

2003 - Rustenberg John X Merriman |

Decanted 1 hour. The color shows a very bright ruby. The nose is a bit subdued. Some dried fruit, all medium dark. Some currant and sulphur and camphor. There is a very nice note of cinnamon? Not sure, but I like it. The palate reveals an amazing purity of dark fruits, great subdued tannins, and a super elegance not usually found in a $30 wine. A plushness is evident, one that I fear many correlate over-ripeness to. I relate it to an acid level right on the mark. A 30 second aftertaste with a tinge of sweetness. Nice. A four grape blend that is sure to please. Note to self; get more. |

old world meets new world meets totally unique! |

A really snappy green peppercorn quality that somehow totally works in concert with classic bordeaux profile. All of this eventually mellows to show very WA state-like tart cherry. Really unique.

2004 - Groote Post Sauvignon blanc |
Dry South African Wine |
May 13, 2008 |
|
|
This is a much drier sav. blanc than I had expected - even for South Africa. This drinks more like a Chenin Blanc than a Sauvignon Blanc. The crispness of this wine makes it easy to drink with food but the oak is still a little too strong for my tastes. |

Nice Spice |

Well - you either like pinotage or you don't! I like it but, in moderation. This wine has the cinammon, and cedar box dominating the palate. The plum fruit is soft and resonates in the back of your throat. This wine will stay strong for another 4 to 6 years. |
