2006 - Bookster Pinot Noir
Dietetic cherry pie
Nov 03, 2010
1 star 1 star 1 star
The Bookster Pinot Noir from Sonoma, CA, hails from Sherbrooke Cellars wholesalers and importers. They offer some interesting wines, like Finnegan's Fin and Chaz Point Cabernet Sauvignon, but their impoverished website is one of the sparsest I've encountered.Let's see what this young, value-priced pinot noir is like....In the glass, it is a medium mahogany red - not atypical for the varietal. Aromas are of candied cherries, medium-bold.On the palate, you experience an extremely smooth, almost svelte consistency - like dietetic cherry pie. That's both the good and the bad news. No one could ever call this unpleasant. But hard to acknowledge it as truly memorable. I will give it three stars out of five.More reviews at spiritofwine.blogspot.com.

I ordered this rose as a fall back in the absence of a dry blush from the other side of the pond and was blown away by its depth and flexibility.  Paired well with sauteed softshell crab as well as slow roasted veal at a top Boston restaurant.  Now I've just got to find some.

Medium bodied with lots of sweet flowers on the nose.  A little woody, should mellow out.

Very muted on the nose, hard to get any solid aromas.  Very nice on the palate, mellow, a little green (ha!).  Very pleasant.

Interesting nose, fun to play with.  Slightly dusty, but rich and smooth.  Flavors of cherry on the palate with some meat and a hint of menthol.  Has personality.

Wow.  The nose was gummed down a bit with heavy fruit, but it still smelled delightful.  Definite white pepper mixed in with the fruit and floral aromas.  Cherry pit and underbrush on the palate with nice acid.  Fleshy and intense, morphs in the mouth switching between floral and fruit flavors.  Very impressed.

If you love Pinot Noir this is a wine for you.  This is elegant and classy, definitely not over extracted and well made.  This is not a blockbuster by any means and that is why I like it.  On the nose I get notes of Watermelon, Pomegranite, Sage, and Menthol. I really like this wine.

2007 - Smith Wines, W H Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast

Medium ruby core with a lighter rim. Ripe black cherry and wild strawberry fruit aromas all surrounded by cooler notes of wet earth and spicy cola. Very round on the entry into the mouth; smooth and silky. Hints of game surround tons of ripe strawberry with a touch of charcoal and dark earth on the finish. Great balance making this an easy drinking, smooth Pinot all the way down. Finding value in Pinot seems to get harder every year, but W.H. Smith has put together a Sonoma Coast Pinot in 2007 that over delivers for your dollar. Made with grapes from four different vineyards in the Sonoma Coast, this is a fantastic bottle. At about half the price of W. H. Smith's single vineyard wines, this combines fruit and spice in an easy-to-drink, smooth, elegant and delicious wine. This also happens to be the perfect accompaniment to the foods on your table at Thanksgiving!

This was a thin, one dimentional, fruit forward, and watery pinot noir.  Not much flavor beyond the initial burst of cherry.  Cheap party wine.

2004 - Williams Selyem Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast
The best in Pinot Noir

I can't begin to tell anyone who will listen how frustrating it is to me to find a decent Pinot Noir.  There just seems to be so much swill out there.  And then there is Williams Selyem.  Perhaps the quintessential winemakers when it comes to Pinots, this particular wine never disappoints.  From its delightful bright red color right down to the wonderful aromas and taste, this wine proves that pinot noir can be made right and enjoyed mightily.  The flavors are dynamic and bright, the texture smooth and effortless.  A nice tartness behind the smooth wine itself, almost strawberry like.  I know it's an expensive bottle of wine, but I'd trade all of the pinot duds I've bought over the years to have only a few bottles of this quality wine.  A winner.

This vintage had a very long finish with tastes of sour cherry and plum. This wine is a great experience. A little sweeter than I like my wines, but a great wine that you should seek out.

This vintage surprised me, as a really fabulous wine and it tastes more like Burgandy wines than American wines that I've had. First smell reminded me of maple syrup with walnuts and cherries. Tastes of black cherry and silky vanilla. Drink it up now!
