Great wine - not quite ready for consumption, but it will be eventually.  The coffee and vanilla bean flavors impressed me the most.  I would recommend this wine to anyone who enjoys wine and has deep enough pockets.

Numnathia

2000 Numnathia ... dense, thick wine with spice and anise on the nose and mouth as well as a fair dose of vanilla.  Night two of this wine and the spice and anise gave way to more earth/mineral and asphalt. Still quite big and even better than the first night.

Inky, almost black color. Nose of red raspberries. Akward, almost hollow mid-palate. OK finish with noticeable tannins. Acceptable with food but not as a cocktail wine.

Not bad

I don't dislike this wine but I also don't get the hype.  Parker way overrates this wine on a consistent basis.  If you expect 90+ points you'll get disappointment, if you expect 87+ - you'll be content.  The fruit is over powered by vanilla oak and alcohol.

Loved this wine. Loved it so much I got more. Color very dark. Nice balance, long finish, minerals, clove, bordeaux like. Wow. Great QPR.  Paid about $20 and I have about 7 more left

Hibernating bouquet shows up

Purple/maroon in color. Light bodied and simple. Justa tad bitter. But when first opened...no bouquet at all! Bu thte next day (decant) bouquet much better. Nice nose, subdued but fragrant, reminding me again of a winery barrel room, but just a whiff of that. Taste occurred on the roof of mouth and midde of tongue. So so but actually okay for the table.

2003 - Bodega Numanthia Termes Numanthia
Better than average tempranillo

A very good wine for the price point ($20-$30). Cork was very dark as one would expect from a tempranillo. Bouquet was strong, almost like a powerful zin or a winery floor. Deep colored wine, very purple. Full bodied and luscious. So extracted the glasses were stained. But very good and flavorful. Would buy a Termes again hands down.

Nose of berries, clove, wet stones, tree bark and Mars bar. Palate with integrated tannins, fruit. On the mid palate, anise, oak, smoke, charcoal (not that I've eaten one). Nice wine, complex.

Touted by Wine Library as a good every-day wine. Great price at $6 but I found this to be too simple, without oomph. Short finish. OK for food, but nothing I will buy again.

Not a summer sipper

I love my reds just like the next person, and perhaps this one needs more time to calm down, but this is one powerhouse of a wine.  Not necessarily aromatic, it presently has a bite that doesn't let go.  A true Pit Bull of a wine, it works best with hearty dishes.  It seems to go with a red based pasta or a steak.  But you won't be singing its praises if drinking it solo.  I find myself struggling to describe its flavor...almost surmising that it is a woodsy wine, one that gives the back sides of the tongue a tweak once it passes along.  Parker loves this wine and it typically scores c.92-93 points.  Perhaps as far as a Spanish red goes, it's a winner, but I like the aromatics and flavors of fruit in my wine, something this one definitely does not display.  If, on the other hand, you're after something beefy to go along with that winter stew, this certainly might qualify.  And at $25/bottle, you'll get a bargain as well as something that will last plenty of years.

Good Spanish wine

The price point is about right for this wine, but it still doesn't deliver the quality that the hype behind it commands.  Good wine with food - very tight wine that will benefit from cellaring.  The alcohol comes through on this wine hiding behind vanilla oak - which you see in a lot of Spanish wines.  The fruit is solid but it can't disguise the alcohol.

Nothing that amazing - maybe b/c I drank sauternes w/ the fois gras pate right b4, but was way better the next day. From mem. Lots of acidity, tannins, fruit and oak. Probably need to age this baby

Strong Spanish Wine

Much more structured and tighter tannins than most spanish wines but that just gives it the support to last longer than 5 years unlike most spanish wines other than rioja's that fall short after only a short period of fake fruit and vanilla.   This wine needs to open up more, but it still has so many interesting flavors of cocoa, cherries, rasperries, plum and tobacco - nice finish too.

What a bold wine. This is juicy, big, fruit forward and bold! Almost new world in style. Some minerality, hints of oak and a bit racy right now. Should be excellent in 3 years. Great value for the price!

An amazing Lan. Definitely different in style from previous vintages. Very New World, with bright black fruit, extremely silky tannins and just a touch of oak. May have detected slight brett, but the wine was wonderful. Full bodied with a long finish.

This was a very interesting wine.  California Tempranillo?  Usually wine varietals out of their normal terroir in California tend to disappoint me, but this one was a very pleasant surprise.

Smooth tannins with a little bit of chewiness from this dry wine.  The dark fruit shines through over nuts, and classic Paso Roble terroir.  This wine is an experience more than anything.  Best with food.

90+ Points.

2004 - Montebuena Rioja
Rustic Red
Aug 30, 2007

This wine has a deep red core with hints of garnet and a light maroon rim. Aromas of very ripe cherry and cassis are present along with some rusticity and light white pepper. The body is rather light with tight acids, more cherry, and carob undertones. Consistent finish. This wine will go very well with stews and barbequed meats.
