Good Again!

Another great vintage! The wine is modestly complex and doesn't go over the top. The finish is medium length, and there are some tannins adding some backbone, but they are exceptionally well integrated.  The blueberry and raspberry fruit are nice and lightly lush.

I liked it. Medium bodied and very well balanced, this is not a powerhouse of a wine, but it has a lot going on and remains fresh and vibrant. Blueberry notes up front with maybe a hint of smoke on the midpalate. Decent length on the finish.

I think it's this vintage

I had this wine at a tasting recently at a friends house, and I don't drink a lot of rose so that's why it sticks out to me - that and because it made me want to drink more Rose wines. Not sure if it was this vintage or the previous or the next, but anyway, it was a very dry, yet fruit filled refreshing wine that was a great wine to sip on the porch before dinner.  Definetly a keeper!

SAY ROSE!

After 3 vintages of this wine, I cannot wait for the next three! This particular vintage has very nice cotton candy and other light fruits. For some odd reason I rather liked it after it completely warmed up to room temp unlike previous vintages.

Good Rose

Another solid vintage from Copain. This was more strawberry and candied fruit, with an almond aroma, dry, high acidity, medium body, nice lime juice finish.  Most should enjoy this easy to drink rose.

Summer Wine!

This is a great summer wine! Lots of apples and a hint of cotton candy on the palate. A very sweet bouquet but a dry wine. Definitely chill well before serving...for a crisper feel and taste.  A bit peppery in the finish.

Good Cool Syrah

Very cool grapes make this syrah very pleasing on the palate. Also has a good nose and finish, but something strikes me as off in the mid-palette. Very peppery. Excellent with dark chocolate, though - brought out more berry flavors.

Desert Anyone?

This was a big surprise and tasty wine. The wine has a rich taste with a hint of chocolate and a nice afterglow to it. There was some debate in our tasting group as to whether or not it could stand on its own as a nice dessert wine. I voted YES!

Cherry Bomb!
Jun 03, 2008
1 star 1 star
This is a cherry bomb! Cherry Coke. Raspberries, light vanilla oak  integrates well into the wine . The Cherries dominate and are surrounded by cherry coke and cherry sauce.   Are you getting the idea? Drink now.

Buyer Beware
Jun 03, 2008

This wine is slightly disjointed now, but came together after about an hour and a half in a decanted. First hour; loads of rich blackberry, which slowly gave way to notes of cherry and almost casis like flavor. I'm admittedly poorly tasted on older vintages of this wine, but I think it will pull itself together in a year or so time. Could be great - could land on its face.

Two Years in A Row

I now adored the wine and the adventure it took me to and the overall light but complex experience. A wine that has great body and a nice slightly off balanced finish should come together over time. Hopefully it will only improve and go to 5 stars.

Silky and Seductive

This wine has blueberry, dark cherry brown spice, hint of violets. Brown spice, oak spice silky, and more blueberry on the palate. Very nice finish, lingers pleasingly dark cherries, blueberry, brown spices, wonderful silky tanins.

YES!

1 star 1 star 1 star 1 star
YES! YES! YES! This wine is where it's at! It has layer upon layer upon layer of flavor. Though still a baby and a bit tight, this one shows every red and blue and black fruit flavor you can think of - though in a reserved way. I get bit of cedar box and cinnamon on the nose. I'd love to taste this one again after years of cellaring - but I don't know if I could wait that long!

Blueberry

Big, juicy, dark purple hot blueberry on nose slightly vegetal (brocolli) black pepper and dark raspberry palate interesting.  I would enjoy this with a steak or even by itself.

Drink with Food

Lots of fruit but has some distinct earthy, gamey, funk on the nose. If you like big, fruity reds, but are ready to branch out, this could be a revelatory wine. I think that food will help.

Value in an Expensive Wine
Jun 02, 2008

This is by far the best value out of all the Pax wines that I've had in a long time. This is a "drink it now" wine. It hit me with black cherries on the tip of the tongue , lots of "dried plum"(a kinder name for prunes), vanilla, and warm, spicy oak. Solid!

Solid Effort

Good wine that delivers for the price it demands. Decent body, maybe if I did try to let it age a year or so it might get a little more body to it. But otherwise darn good wine! Solid raspberry and blueberry fruit on the tongue.

Nice sharp taste, not too tannic, but at the same time not quite a soft tast either. Good drinking wine not made for aging it seems. Overall this wine disappoints for what it should be. Pass on this vintage.

GREAT!

This is the vintage to buy! It's so silky and creamy, yet massive. Did I mention this tastes like a cherry bomb?  Ding ding ding, we have a big winner with the 2003 Pax Cellars Griffins Lair.

Good not Great
Jun 02, 2008

It was good but some black cherry toward the end, but this is like drinking a soda, so much so that my brain anticipates the carbonation. The body is curvy and voluptuous, great mouthfeel but still off putting from the soda aspect.
