So, someone at work asked me today what my all-time favorite wine is. Tough question. My quick answer was the Kamen '02 Cab. But with further thought I had to consider the Herder "Josephine" and Mission Hill "Oculus" , both from British Columbia, which we have enjoyed on ski trips to Whistler. Two years ago my brother-in-law opened a magnum or 1975 Dom Perignon, which he brought home from a trip to France in hopes of winning over his soon-to-be X-girlfriend. His efforts most certainly failed, but 30 years later the wine was ethereal!!! Also, at a tasting last year, I tried the Chateau Montelena '04 Cab--I did buy just one and will wait a few years before I revisit, but it was right up there with my favorites. And, I could not forget my very first "ah-haa" wine-- it was a Heitz Cellar "Martha's Vineyard". My husband's cousin, who was, at that time, "way into" wine (he has since tapered off, but my husband still blames him for having introduced me to higher end wines) ordered it for us at a restaurant near the coast in Oregon. Wow!
I know my tastes and budget are well below some other posters here--but let's hear it---What's your All-Time Favorite?

Too hard to pick a favorite. For my part, I always hope the next one turns out to be my favorite, whatever it may be...

The best wine I've personally ever had is the 1995 Gaja Barolo Sperss. I wish I had the pocketbook to buy a case of it.

Lots of favorites, but a consistent favorite of mine is D' Arenberg's Dead Arm, had a bottle of the 1999 last month and it was spectacular

1985 Kalin Cellars Cuvee Rose Sparkling wine. Just finished my last bottle of this a few months ago (and admittedly it was finally getting towards the end of its life). I'm a huge bubbles fan, and I'm as surprised as anyone the quality in this domestic bottle. At its peak I would have put it against the Cristal Rose or any others!

Hard to pick an all time favorite, but a few of the best that I've had:
1986 Penfolds Grange, D'Arenberg's Dead Arm is always good(and reasonably priced) the 1999 was especially good, 1998 Du Vieux Telegraphe CDP, and last month I had a bottle of 2005 Sea Smoke Southing that I thought was extraordinary.

Hate to copy folks, but J-Sho nails it:
2001 Yquem...the finest wine that has ever touched my lips.
As Reds go...hmmm....any Cab from Caymus and the Shafer Reds are all wonderful (sans the Merlot) Hillside Select, Relentless, One Point Five are all tops on my list!

2001 Yquem is an amazing wine- I'd have to also put 86 Mouton and 82 Lynch Bages on the list for my all-time faves

I haven't had 2001 Yquem yet. Sounds like a favorite, though. I've had the 2001 Shafer Hillside Select and it was decent. ;)

To tell you the truth, there has been so many. If you like Merlot, a Chilian 2005 called Woodcrest knoked my socks off. If it's Frech Red I still prefer Haut Brion, but lots of value in La Mission de Haut Brion. the right bank is of particular favorites: St. Emillion! Ausone. Cheval Blanc, and Angeles... I have some first growths, various years, but am waiting for the apprpriate occassion. I would stay away from Amon Ra and other higher pointed Shirazes, unleass that is your taste. Champagne, the 1999 Pannier extra Brut is a great value at today's prices if you can find it, got three, drank one, and workinking on 20 more, if I was going to the Virgin Islands, could get it at 1/3 the price. Not going to the V.I. and have 2 daughters. Setting up the Bridal table at future weddings. Taste is individual...Explore your world!!!!
Cheers

I like the 2001 Yquem myself, but I would be hard pressed to call it a favorite. The truth is that, like anything else, favorite changes according to mood and occasion.
Definitely a winner though.

Favorite.... I don't know. My Dad collected wine when I was young and saved many old and wonderful bottles. Each year, he gives me another and says "this is the last bottle I have..."! In 1997, he gave me a bottle of Chateau Kirwan, Bordeaux (Marguaux) 1958. I'm uncertain now of how this was evaluated. About a year later, we had friends from Marseille visit and I decided it might be a nice time to try the Kirwan. WOW! Of course, my French friends thought very differently about American wine tastes after that! Still the single best bottle I've ever had...

Favorite wine experiences depend more on the moment, and who you share them with, than on the wine, but the short list goes something like this: 1966 Chambertin Clos de Beze (can't remember producer, my first great Burgundy) 1969 La Tache DRC 1961 Barolo Monfortino G. Conterno 1961 Barolo Bartolo Mascarello 1971 Riesling Clos St. Hune Trimbach
Yes these are all really old; but I think the younger versions of these that are in the cellar will crack the list someday too.

I retract my last statement. 2001 Dyquem is sex in a bottle but paled in comparison to the 1947 Cheval Blanc which I was lucky enough to drink a couple months ago. Talk about otherworldly!

There are some great Red Wines exported from Italy, but one of the most underrated and well priced has to be Valpolicella Classico Ripasso.

I grew up in an Italian/French family. In the 60's i remember those Chianti bottles with the straw around the base. Then there was Lancers and Reunite (on ice that's nice). Then Gallo Hearty Burgundy came and was soo good.
Years later i went into a wine store and asked for something special. The owner suggested something called Cabernet Sauvignon; I never heard of it before. He suggested Beaulieu Vineyards BV Rutherford. I could not believe what i was tasting. Everyone loved it. That SOB owner has cost me a fortune since that day. You always love your first love.
