Just a couple thoughts and curious to hear opinions as always. 2006 Napa Cabs have garnered a lot of good scores. I have had quite a few but find most of them to be a bit tannic. The fruit is there but the tannins are obtrusive and I just don't see them mellowing with age. Bottom line -- OVERRATED in my mind.
Now 2007 Pinot. I went to the Mendicono barrell tasting and wine auction. Drank quite a few of the 2007 (ok way too much). Holy Moses, they are incredible with beautiful purity of fruit and soft, voluptously mouth feel. Was hard to find one I didn't like.
Cheers

I've only had 1 2007 Pinot from Mendocino, which I thought was exceptional, but so far, all of the Sonoma Coast '07 Pinots have been spectacular, and very Burgundian in style and flavor profile. I was particularly impressed with an '07 Failla and '07 Drew's vineyard, which tasted like a premier cru Chambolle and Gevrey-Chambertin, respectively. Do you remember any of the especially fine Mendocino labels?

The 2006 Caymus is very approachable (as is typical for Caymus). These tannic Cabs will need a few years more bottle age in my opinion, so I guess we disagree there. I think they will soften and open...just hope the fruit is still there.
I have started dabbling in the Pinots now that I am in Pinot country (near Portland) but would certainly second Glenn's request for Mendocino picks.

How does one find out about attending wine auctions or buying from wine collectors?
