2006 - Argyle Pinot Noir Willamette Valley Pinot Noir

Young, but has potential

Still giving this 3 stars as it is very one dimensional pinot that delivers little fruit.  It is balanced and smooth, but lacking in quality of grape and fruit.

Other pinots I heard are better as this one is hte lower bottling at this winery.

2005 - Napa Cellars Merlot Merlot

Low quality Merlot and it shows

Napa Cellars isn't anything to write home about, but sometiems oyu need to balacne your spending with something that "hopefully" provides punch in your mouth without denting your wallet.

Napa Cellars merlot is defintely not one of those wines that deleviers.  Very musty, sweet merlot with little fruit that is disguised by overwhelming flavors.

2004 - Truchard Syrah Syrah

Underrated Syrah coming from Carneros area

Truchard is defintely one of the wineries that is under the radar.  They provide a large range of varietals and I tihnk their best year over year is the Syrah.  It has the perfect spice, fruit, balance and finish.

2005 - Sea Smoke Cellars Pinot Noir Southing Pinot Noir

A tad better than the Botella

Tried both the Southing nad Botella nad liked the Southing a tad better.  More fruit nad balacne than the Botella and more refined.  Both are excellent.

2005 - Sea Smoke Cellars Pinot Noir Botella Pinot Noir

Another strong effort

Sea Smoke deleivers again from a great 2004 vintage to another great 2005 vintage.  The Botella is the perfect Central Coast pinot that everyone desires.  It has great acidity, fruit and silkiness that last a long time.

2004 - Coup de Foudre Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Sauvignon

Yet another cult wine trying to fit in

Apr 28, 2008

I got this wine as part of a promotion from buying Amuse Bouche.  It needs to lay down for a couple of years to develop, but lacked alot of power behind it.  The beginning and middle had lots of flavors and fruit, but seemed to die at the end with little to no finish.  Fruit was there, but was lean.  Raised prices from 2004 to 2005 vintage.

2005 - Tablas Creek Cote de Tablas Blanc Proprietary Blend

Excellent Central Coast winery

Very underrated among California producers.  Consistently has excellent wines in the Rhone varietals.  The Blanc Blend is a combination of several grapes for a nice, rich, well balanced, not too powerful white.  Packs plenty of flavor and fruit without being oaky.

2005 - Favia Quarzo Syrah Syrah

Big name winemaker makes average syrah

I would lay this down for a little while to help the wine develop in the bottle, however at first taste it is singular in delivery of fruit, not much spice and very average especially for the price point.

Again, might have to wait a year or two to try again.

2002 - Lewis Cellars Alec's Blend Proprietary Blend

Best Syrah ever made

Had this in a restaurant several years ago and it was absolutely amazing, from the nose to the taste.  I ended up finding 3 more bottles that I bought.  Incredibly complex, with layer upon layer of fruit.  Incredibly deep and super long finish.

Not in the category of overbearing Chardonnays, but very complex, with long finish, and balanced.  Lots of tropical flavors.

2006 - Kim Crawford Pinot Noir Marlborough Pinot Noir

Lacking

Kim Crawford Pinot is just not up to par with it's Sav. Blanc.  It is very one dimensional, with little fruit and lots of acid.

Another consistent effort

I'm rating this in the Sav. Blanc category and it absolutely deserves a 5 star rating, year after year producing consistency above everyone else and at a great price range
