1997 - Opus One Proprietary Red Wine Proprietary Blend
Opus failing to produce quality in the year of the decade.
Nov 09, 2007
Now, I drank this bottle one year ago. The wine was only 9 years old (& quite pricey might I add). This wine behaved like a wine passes it's prime. Some fruit w/ a hint of mushroom & leather. The wine did finish well. I was expecting more. I'm so happy I've kept my notes. The wine buying public must be warned!!
My third bottle and I consistantly taste hints of leather & fruit. Velvet like smoothness with a nice steady finish. This wine has reached it's point of maturity & stayed there. Age has been a great influence on this wine.
Certainly passed it's prime. However, still a joy to drink. Still quite a bit of red berries & almost a floral nose. A perfect example of a quality producer combined by a killer year paying off for decades to come.
This dry well rounded wine should be served to people who turn their noses up to Italian whites. Pleanty of character with a great nose. Medium bodied. An excellent introduction to Bruno Giacosa's vast portfolio.
