1970 - Latour, Chateau  Bordeaux Blend

A First Growth with the Cork inside it v Meridian Merlot

Okay, so I'm not really side by side testing a "leaker" 1970 Chateau Latour vs Meridian Merlot, but if memory serves, this partially oxidated, and certainly weathered first growth would whoop the tar out of Meridian Merlot.  It would dominate a lot of wines I've tasted.  You know why?  Because it's so exceptional that it can travel all over the world, get some sort of damage late in its life, leak all over my jeans and still taste better off of my fingers than most average wines out of premiere Riedel glassware.  The fruit is still making itself known through the very first taste: strawberries sing on my tongue.  Oh, my first First Growth!  How I love thee.

Could I be a little biased?  Perhaps.  But it was certainly palatable.  That's all a girl can really ask for.  As Roger Miller would've said: "Chug-a-lug, Chug-a-lug.  Makes ya wanna holler HOWDY HO!"

2005 - Aromes de Pavie  Bordeaux Blend

Pavie? No? Darn...but you're related, huh? Alright.

I am an emotional person, and beauty and beautiful moments have been known to push me to tears, and I have to say that the excitement I felt knowing I was drinking a wine that came from the same grapes that made Pavie could have made me cry if I wasn't in the company of a whole lot of my peers.  I know I have very little chance of ever drinking the real deal, so to get this close and for it to deliver this well, I'll take it any day of the week.  It was so smooth and the flavors exciting and complex...and it was already showing so much as a 2005.  Think of it in a couple years!  So, yeah, you can't always get what you want.  But if you try sometimes, you might find, you get what you need!  Ain't that the truth, Mick Jagger!

2004 - Sutter Home White Zinfandel Zinfandel

I talk so much trash about Sutter Home. I don't know why, really. For guys and gals like my mom, the quality doesn't matter. So, if you just want to drink just to say you're drinking wine, don't like beer, or other, go with Sutter Home. You won't be disappointed with the lack of character because you just don't care.

Yum Yum

Lacking eloquence and proper terminology (bear with me...I'm learning), let me just say this wine was an absolute treat. My first Port of any kind, and it really lived up to all the hype (mostly manufactured by my own inflated expectations). I can't wait to have more More MORE!
